It is human instinct to survive; to seek safety and answers. The Witness, a 3D puzzle game from the creator of Braid, opens in an under-lit corridor without explanation. It doesn't provide an iota of information as to what led to the current predicament – or even if it is one – but you instinctively know to walk towards the light. Just as you know what to do when you're faced with a sign on the door in front of you. It seems natural: a click, a quick swipe to the right and the door pulls away to grant you passage.
On walking out into the sun, you're presented with a surreal world, one that's strikingly beautiful. And empty. There's no one present to give you instructions, no heads-up display that guides you through the game. This is an open-world puzzle game, without any form of dialogue, exposition, and background music – a far cry from Jonathan Blow's only other game Braid, which released in 2008. There's no shortage of Android gamepads these days, at prices ranging from just around Rs. 1,000, to between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 10,000 for international brands like Steelseries and Mad Catz. Most of the gamepads available online are either tiny controllers (which are really not the most comfortable to use), or – as is much more common now – roughly the size (and shape) of an Xbox One controller, with a flip-out handle in the middle where you can attach your phone.
It's a good solution, for the most part, since you don't need a separate stand to prop up the phone when playing, and the large size also means that the controller tends to be comfortable to use during long gaming sessions. The catch is that most of the controllers of this style tend to be a little bulky – you can't exactly slip one into your pocket and carry it around.

This generation of consoles has seen many high definition remasters of games, from heavy hitters like Grand Theft Auto V to scrappy indie titles like Guacamelee. If you're playing a game on your Xbox One or Playstation 4 then chances are that you've heard of it before, if not experienced it already. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD fits into this category. It's a remaster of a PlayStation Portable (PSP) game that never made it out of Japan until now. Much like the recent games in the series (except Final Fantasy XIV), its a heady mix of futuristic technology and magic.
The game is set in the world of Orience. Its four kingdoms are at war and you control Class Zero, an elite group of fourteen student soldiers who can wield weapons and magic. Each member is named after a card in a pack such as Ace, Seven, and Jack. If it weren't for the word “remastered” in its name, you wouldn't think that Gravity Rush Remastered is an updated, high definition version of the 2012 open-world PS Vita action-adventure game as the two games look worlds apart. The original release of on Sony's second handheld was beautiful in its own right, limited by the platform's limitations. On the PlayStation 4 however, it looks good enough to be mistaken for a game natively developed for it.
Gravity Rush has you in the role of Kat, who is a “gravity shifter”. As the name implies, Kat specialises in turning Newtonian laws upside down. It's an intriguing concept, so we were a little disappointed that the game used the well worn amnesiac hero trope; Kat has lost her memory, and doesn't know how she ended up in the floating city of Heskeville.

Stealth games have changed a lot in the last few years. Instead of skulking around crates and hiding underneath vehicles, you have a host of gadgets that make games a lot more action-focused. We've seen genre staples like Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell get updates that allow you to run and gun your way through with little consequence.
Volume, a new stealth game by Mike Bithell of Thomas Was Alone fame, is the anti-thesis of the modern stealth game. There are no wide, sprawling maps for you to traipse around. The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is underway, and there are now more cricket video games than you can keep track of. However, the one cricket game you should play this season is surprisingly the one which has no flashy licenses, no real player names (out of the box at least), and none of that almost TV-like polish that typifies many of Electronic Arts' forays into sports games such as FIFA. The game to play is Don Bradman Cricket, released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is the anti-thesis of cricket video games, but it still delivers both for gamers and cricket fans.
In spite of its many follies, it's the rare sports game that lures you into the zone of thinking “just one more over” and then you find yourself in front of your TV half awake at six in the morning. It expertly traps you into this cycle, tempting you into just a little more, until you sacrifice any semblance of a life outside it.

The WWE has been in video games for decades now, back from when it used to be called the World Wrestling Federation. These games aren't always the best games, but the over the top presentation and the accessibility of play means that the WWE games are a great couch multiplayer experience that you can always enjoy with your friends. WWE 2k16 isn't breaking from this tradition either, but along the way, it suffers from a problem that's common to many sports games.
These games need to strike a balance between the presentation as we see it on television – to keep fans interested – but it also needs to be playable, and finding the balance between the presentation and playability is often a challenge. The series is working towards that balance and if you look at the WWE games from WWE 2k14 onwards, you'll see a steady grind that's polishing away rough surfaces and leaving behind a game that's fun for fans and newcomers.

Like military shooters, games featuring zombies are a cliche. Resident Evil is a long-running video game franchise with a dedicated audience that's known even outside gaming circles thanks to a series of (mostly awful) movies starring Milla Jovovich. Resident Evil HD Remaster is a recent remake of a 2002 Nintendo GameCube game, which was a remake of a 1996 game for the original PlayStation, Sega Saturn and PC. There's a lot of history in this title, and it's a very faithful remake that helps highlight just how much the series – and gaming in general – has changed in nearly two decades.
For a game that's based on code that's 13 years old, Resident Evil HD Remaster looks stellar. It might not have the eye candy of remasters of last generation games such as Metro Redux or The Last of Us, but it is significantly better looking than the Resident Evil 4 remaster, which looked just a shade above the GameCube original.
